Juicy investments with Ostmost
This week we are glad to promote Ostmost who has started a #crowdinvesting in order to save #biodiversity though the protection of orchard against monoculture.
Last Wednesday, we surprised our customers with delicious Ostmost juices in their Benoo bag. It was important for us to share more about their crowdinvesting project at the same time.
Who is Ostmost?
Ostmost produces certified organic and quality juices, spritzers and ciders, made of locally grown apple varieties. All drinks are additives free and apple-based, using old apple varieties from East German meadow orchards – hence the name “Ost”most.
With over 7.5 million bottles produced, Ostmost has been able to buy over 2,000 tons of healthy and organically certified orchards at fair prices. This corresponds to more than 25 large soccer fields full of saved orchards.
Biodiversity vs. Monoculture
In Germany, 80% of the meadow orchards have already been cut down. Among other things, it has been done in profit to intensive monocultures and surface sealing.
Habitat of 5,000 animal and plants, fruits grows naturally in meadow orchards, without pesticides. The diversity of species limits the spread of pest and possible diseases. Orchards also allow a better environment for pollinators and organisms involved in soil renewal. That type of culture reduce as well the impact of floods by absorbing water. This surplus water then feeds the groundwater chemicals-free and can be used during periods of drought.
Like rain forests, meadow orchards are highly endangered biotopes today!
Our shared vision
At Benoo, when it comes to improve our food system in order to make it healthier and more sustainable, we are in! With Ostmost, we believe meadow orchards must be worthwhile again for farmers. We understand that maintaining and harvesting these meadow orchards is particularly time-consuming and therefore often no longer economically viable for the farmers. Therefore, as we do with our farmers, we can ensure a fair remuneration, create regional value, and preserve our dear and only Planet!
So let’s join forces and spread the word!
In order to show your support, share that article and until the 7th of July 2022, you can invest in the Ostmost project to save even more orchards (with biodiversity that comes with!) and at the same time get a decent return on your investment.
